The Byron Society of the Sacred City of Messolonghi was founded in 1991 and has turned into an international Centre for Research and Study of the life and work of Lord Byron. Among others, it aims to highlight the idea of Philhellenism along with the numerous philhellenes sacrificed during the 1821 Greek Revolution.
The Byron Society is housed in the same building where the great Romantic poet Lord Byron grew up. The latter, had developed important activities both in Greece and abroad, such as international conferences, lectures, tributes, musical and theatrical performances and exhibitions.
