Apart from the fact that it’s one of the most important lagoon complexes in the Mediterranean and part of the Natura 2000 network, it is a bountiful ecosystem full of plankton and supplied by the estuaries of two rivers off the central west coast of Greece. This major Mediterranean environmental park, home to a wide diversity of flora and fauna, is protected by the Ramsar Convention. There, you will also admire the pelades, which are cabins or stilt-houses of unique beauty, built on pilings above the water surface.
