The Sacrifice Road Race is a race held annually, the day before Easter, to honor the fighters of Messolongi, in which the runners actually take the reverse route, followed by the Free Besieged.
Athletes from across the country take part each year in this race which begins from the monastery of Ai Symios. The finish line is in the Garden of Heroes, and the total distance being covered is 9,800 meters.
In April 1946, on the initiative of a gymnastics trainer from Palamaiki School, Giorgos Polichronopoulos, the first race took place. The organization of this race is always held by the Gymnastic Association "Charilaos Trikoupis".
Every year, the feast of Ai Giannis in Evinochori (Bohori) is conducted on June 23rd and 24th, on the Eve and Day of the Beheading of John the Baptist, or else called, Ioannis Prodromos of Riganas.
The feast of Ai Giannis has its roots in the Ottoman period, and particularly in the period of “klephtes and armatoloi", the main armed forces against the oppressor. During the Turkish occupation, the chapel of Ai Giannis played a major role for the region and is connected with the Siege of Messolonghi. It was located at the foot of Arakynthos, where Ancient Calydon is today, in an area that connected Bohori with Messolonghi and the wider region.
The area is ideal for those who love the liquid element, as they can enjoy swimming in one of the most beautiful beaches of our municipality (Tourlida, Dioni, Louros).
Moreover, those who want to experience an adventure, are also given the opportunity to occupy themselves with many water activities and sports, such as diving, water ski, wind surfing, sailing, jet ski etc.
